About Us
Welcome to the Future Foundation for Advanced Climate & Natural Sciences (FFCANS), a nonprofit founded by a group of college students determined to make a difference in the fight against climate change.
In 2022, a group of students from Cornell University recognized the urgent need for more research and action on climate change. They felt that while the scientific community was making strong strides in leveraging machine learning and AI technology in the fight against climate change, more work was needed to uncover the huge boon machine learning could provide to this area. .
The first three founders were Andrew Sampson, Jesse Werbow, and Lauren Thomas. Their interest in independent research led them to forging their own path.
The foundation see climate change as the single most existential threat facing the next generations. The foundation orients itself in regards to this future, from supporting children in the local Ithaca community to researching the technologies of tomorrow.
The founders come from a diverse background including underprivileged ones. This is why the foundation is concerned with the underprivileged youth of today so their story may be told tomorrow. Many young people have the potential to undertake great research in their future’s if they get the support they need now.
